Are you a match?

Look for someone who may have a similar sports background. If you were a swimmer or a baseball player in college, or maybe you are a weekend warrior playing basketball, it could be fun to find someone with a similar interest. Trainers with similar sports backgrounds understand the training a little bit more than those who played completely different sports. There is a language or chemistry that can come faster to you both because of these shared experiences.

You may also want to find a personal trainer who has experience with any injuries or conditions you may have. There is nothing worse than having a trainer who during understand the limitations you have with your range or motion or cardiovascular capacity. If you have asthma, you do not want someone pushing you past a comfort zone. Doing exercises that are beyond your limits can lead to serious injuries. Your personal trainer needs to understand the risks with you.

Finally, do they understand your schedule. New York City is a busy place with people working long hours at the office and then having family obligations, too. Your NY personal trainer, must be understanding of your commitments. They may be young and single with few commitments, while you have bills, kids, and a demanding job. Be sure that they are committed to the time you schedule. Frequent tardiness or cancellations should not be tolerated.
