The body is designed for stress
One of the most unique things about the
human body is its innate ability to manage stress. We are designed to
handle stress with our fight or flight response system. If we are
placed under physical stress it doesn't take the body long to adjust
to make that physical stress the new normal for you. This is why a 20
minute run can burn 400 calories for 4 weeks, then 300 and then 200.
If you keep subjecting your body to the same level of stress it
adapts to it to remove the stress. The body seeks a normal level to
preserve its health and well-being. If the stress doesn't stop, the
body adjusts to make it OK so you don't strain vital systems.
Finding new ways to create
beneficial stress is essential
Ask any New York Personal Trainer what they
recommend to combat this and they will tell you that switching up
your program is the best thing to do. This is why it can be good to
do a 13 week cycle in a Bronx Yoga studio as your primary training
program and make weights and cardio secondary. It gives your body a
rest, shakes things up a bit so they are more interesting to you, and
starts to let you get some benefit out of your exercise program again
too.
